Our Béni Ouarain rugs are woven by the women of the Béni Ouarain tribe in Morocco's Atlas Mountains. This tribe is renowned for producing some of the finest wool in the world, and their rugs have a remarkably soft, plush texture. Each of our carefully selected Béni Ouarain rugs has been woven knot by knot using ancestral techniques handed down from mother to daughter through the generations.
The Beni Ouarain tribe traditionally uses raw wool, which is why it's more common to see these rugs in white/cream colors with natural black or brown patterns created by the wool of the flock's black sheep. Today's weavers enjoy greater artistic freedom, using colors based on natural pigments, which is why we're so pleased to see these lovely, thick, colorful Béni Ouarain rugs.
Béni Ouarain rugs are historically made from undyed wool, which must be of the highest quality. That's why the weavers also concentrate on the process upstream of weaving, which involves working the wool.
